I love Septembers in northern Minnesota. Usually the temps cool down(not so much this year), the leaves start to change colors, the northern lights are seen more frequently, the fishing is great, most of the bugs are gone and it is much quieter. Plus, if you are a resort owner you only work 12 hour […]
May 11 was the fishing opener for Minnesota this year and we had 3 cabins come in to fish. One cabin was a group of guys who have been coming to Pelican Lake for decades, one cabin was a couple who have never fished Pelican Lake and the third was a couple who usually come […]
Normally I’m an avid bass fisherman who occasionally masquerades as a walleye fisherman. But this past week I put my walleye and bass interests on the shelf for a week and went is search of Crappie. Usually in the fall the crappie bite is very good, but this year it didn’t seem to be that […]
I love late summer fishing for bass. My favorite type of fresh water fishing is top water bass fishing. When the water is consistently above 70 degrees I know I can catch bass every night when the sun gets low. This year is no exception. I’ve had a few opportunities lately to get out in […]
Late June and early July have been very good for bass fishing along with strong results for pike fishing. Walleye fishing and crappie have really slowed down. Pike have been extra aggressive particularly for spoons and spinner baits. White has been the hot color for pike. Bass fishing has been best with tube jigs, senkos, […]
Fishing is still going on strong for all species. Bass are just now starting to bite on top water lures. The whopper plopper was a big hit this week. Wacky rig senkos were very good as well as lawless lures for bass. Crappie are still biting on minnows, but more spread out and in a […]
Fishing for the second half of May was really hot. The water quickly warmed up due to the 80 degree air temperatures and our surface temps were in the low 60s and even mid 60s by the end of the month. The crappie bite was especially good in 4-8 feet of water off of rock […]
Fishing was very good for opening weekend. Lots and lots of big bass were caught. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass were hitting crank baits, jerk baits, swim baits, chatter baits and even some soft plastics. Leeches also worked well. Pike were hitting everything thrown in the water. Walleye fishing was decent. Most of the walleye […]
